2009 F1 Shell/Ferrari promo video produced by Kine Graffiti for Edelman

The story of the tortoise and hare has just been re-written - now it’s called the Ferrari and the photographer.

And why? Well, last Friday, just two days before the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix, Kine Graffiti’s photographers managed to outrun a couple of fabulous Ferraris in a spirited sprint down Swanston Street. Not that the Ferraris were actually sprinting - that was us and a darting contingent of press photographers and news crews ducking and weaving around them, popping shots of the two superstars of Ferrari Formula 1, Kimi Raikkonen and Phillipe Massa.

The oh so fast sports cars and their famous passenges were, in fact, travelling at a snails pace, surrounded by a crush of supporters lining the route of this Ferrari / Shell V Power pre-race publicity parade. Culminating in a meet and greet outside the Westin Hotel, the fans had a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with their idols. Then, a quick press conference and straight off to the Albert Park track for practice and testing their searingly quick red machines.

‘Business is business’ as the saying goes and though, in part, we write these occasional paragraphs to proudly show off our professional achievements, we also do it in the hope of attracting new business. So we’re always pleased when we receive unequivocal evidence it works.

Thus when we asked Fedelis Design Associates why they chose us to film and edit a welcome to new employees by the CEO of their client - global pharmaceutical company CSL - they said that having read our various web pieces on working for BlueScope Steel, we seemed a natural choice to complete similar tasks for a similarly large, international company.

We’re hopeful that Fedelis Design Associates and CSL will continue to develop the treatment they’ve recently trialed on us and look forward to a healthy and productive future.

Kine Graffiti produces on-line eLearning package for Bluescope Steel

Putting the ‘E’ into Learning

When you’re an international company like Bluescope Steel, offering a wide range of products and services, supported by a corporate culture that’s central to your success, how do you inform, integrate and inspire your new employees as quickly and efficiently as possible?

One of the best ways is through a corporate eLearning on-line package that allows new starters to log on and explore their working environment at their own pace. And to make that a rewarding experience, you animate your visual presentations and build an extensive bank of entertaining interactivity, using games and quizzes to bring your organization and its ethos to life, while highlighting the full range rewards and opportunities available to the committed and enthusiastic new starter.

With Bluescope Steel providing the eLearning content, Kine Graffiti has been busy creating, testing and refining the package. It’s been a demanding project for both companies but one that’s enhanced the understanding and expertise of everyone involved. And now, close to completion, we’re all looking forward to the assessment that really counts – the response of the new starters themselves.

Kine Graffiti and Bluescope Steel - Around the World in Twenty Days

Around the world in 20 days.

Well, not quite the world but if we say so ourselves, filming for Bluescope Steel’s staff induction video in Indonesia, Thailand, China and the US in just under three weeks wasn’t bad going.

Hitting the ground in Jakarta, Bangkok, Shanghai, Seattle, Portland and Kansas City, we dashed hither and thither shooting a multitude of staff interviews and every useful bit of plant, office and construction overlay we could find. But in all the countries and cities we visited, we would never have achieved the same breadth and quality of coverage without the help of Bluescope’s wonderfully friendly and efficient H.R. staff. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them and though they were busy people indeed, they always made us feel we were their sole concern.

Staff interviews can often seem stiff and stilted but having been well backgrounded rather than minutely rehearsed, Bluescope’s people had a genuinely easy going and relaxed presence that projected a warm and inviting image of the company. Editing awaits filming visits to the company’s Port Kembla and Westernport plants but when it happens, we’ll be selecting our interview grabs from an abundance of excellence. So was it really all work and no play? Well, not entirely, but when we did get out and about, it was with cameras in hand to capture the local colour that underlines the truly international character of this Australian company. In China, for instance, we capped off a Sunday on Shanghai’s historic ‘Bund’ and its surrounding streets and markets with a night cruise on the Huangpu, filming its ceaseless parade of gaudy river boats, dimly lit barges and container sized floating T.V. screens, advertising everything from toothpaste to apartments.

With just a couple of spare hours in Bangkok, we headed for the Klongs [canals] where the narrow commuter ferries zoom between the high rise with hair raising rapidity, their youthful conductors collecting fares from the outside of the boat, while hanging on to a strand of rope to steady themselves on the narrow strip of deck set aside for their feet.

Similarly strapped for spare time in Seattle, we took a minibus tour through the city, stopping for a strict fifteen minutes at historic precincts like the old riverside markets and hurling ourselves out of the bus for three minute ‘photo ops’ at specific points of interest such as the Space Needle.

And as if we hadn’t had enough of aeroplanes during countless hours of flying, we visited the Evergreen Air and Space Museum near Portland, Oregon. With its breathtaking assembly of rare, exotic and revered flying machines it’s a Mecca for aircraft buffs, especially since it houses, in all its re-assembled and refurbished glory, that icon of flying icons, the ‘Spruce Goose’.

But for sheer spectacle, Mount St. Helens in Washington State took the cake. As you zig zag towards it, you glimpse it through the trees, looming ever closer and larger. And though the road ends at an observatory eight kilometres shy of its crater, it’s still enormously and ominously impressive, with the three hundred metre granite plug thrown up in the wake of its last major eruption in 1980 still belching steam - just to remind you that one day it’ll all happen again.

Kine Graffiti commissioned by Attorney General's Department to shoot pool vision of Cyber Storm II National Cyber Exercise

In March 2008, the US Department of Homeland Security’s National Cyber Security Division (NCSD) will sponsored its second large-scale national cyber exercise, Cyber Storm II.

Planned in close coordination with and driven by its stakeholders and participants, the exercise will center on a cyber-focused scenario that will escalate to the level of a cyber incident requiring a coordinated Federal and response.

Exercises such as Cyber Storm II are critical in maintaining and strengthening cross-sector, inter-governmental and international relationships, enhancing processes and communications linkages, as well as ensuring continued improvement to cyber security procedures and processes. Cyber Storm II is an ongoing risk-based management effort to use exercises to enhance government and private sector response to a cyber incident, promote public awareness, and reduce cyber risk within all levels of government and the private sector.
The goal of Cyber Storm II is to examine the processes, procedures, tools, and organizational response to a multi-sector coordinated attack through, and on, the global cyber infrastructure.

Participation in Cyber Storm II includes Federal, State, local, and international governments,
including the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. In addition, private sector players from the Information Technology (IT), Transportation (Rail and Pipe), and Chemical
sectors along with multiple Information Sharing and Analysis Centers (ISACs) are scheduled to
participate.

Following the outstanding success of ‘Getting Connected’ - the recycled water plumbing video Kine Graffiti produced for South East Water - City West Water has commissioned us to produce its own version of this tried and trusted original.

Aside from some minor differences in procedures and installation processes, most water companies tackle the dual supply of fresh and recycled water in a very similar way, so re-versioning the South East Water original has proved a cost effective option for City West Water.

With the rapidly growing uptake of domestic and commercial recycled water and the need to ensure that every plumber installing dual fresh and recycled supplies is fully trained in the procedures required to avoid cross connection, we’re expecting ‘Getting Connected’ to appear under a widening variety of water company logos in Australia and maybe overseas as well!
